Every year on 26th July, India observes Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay tribute to the brave hearts who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war against Pakistan in July 1999. Operation Vijay was launched by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the capture of Kargil posts by the Pakistani Army during the winter of 1998-1999. The 60-day-long Kargil War in Ladakh holds a significant place in India’s history as the first conflict after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
